Glass House Designs

Known as "fusing" or "warm glass," this oldest of glassworking techniques has its origins in ancient Mesopotamia and pre-dates glassblowing by many centuries. Fusing is the heat bonding of layers or pieces of glass at high temperatures. Glass is a wonderful, fluid (even in its cold state) substance that has continued to inspire me since I started working with it in 1990.

My glasswork starts as flat sheets of glass and goes through multiple steps and processes, in the kiln and out, to achieve the results you see. From start to finish each kiln firing takes at least eighteen hours at temperatures that frequently exceed 1400 degrees F. As many as five kiln firings can be necessary for each piece. -- Susan Molnar
