News from Earth and Fire

It's not about giving up

It's time to make another hard decision.

Whether it's because of the economy, or the business model, or a poor execution of the business model... I don't know. But "the gallery" is not working and I know that I've lost the passion I once had for it.

I need to let go and move on.

When I was deciding whether or not to take the leap and start this business 8 years ago, I had a feeling that if I did not go ahead, this would always be something I looked back on and thought "I shoulda done that..."

There is no failure here.

I'm proud of what I built. I made some horrendous financial mistakes (moving to Vienna chief among them), but I did some wonderful things, too: Some of the shows I put together were amazing, and I found homes for a many of the incredible pots in Byron Temple's estate.

I made a great many friends, both artists and customers -- many of whom I've never met in person.

I knew nothing about pottery, or owning a business, or even working in retail when I started this. But I kept trying. Always thinking of a new angle. "Maybe if...."

I've run out of ideas.

I have a few pots still, and I would much rather send them to you than back to the potters. I'm sure the potters would rather I do that as well.

I have set the shopping cart for a flat-rate shipping charge of $5 on orders under $50, and FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50. There is also a 10% discount with the voucher code surrender. (If you live in the immediate area, let me know and we can arrange for an in-person pick-up/delivery.)

So many of you have commented over the years that you enjoy reading my newsletters. I've always appreciated that feedback. If you would like to continue following me through my writing, you may do so here as I work on the next chapter of my life. It's very much a "work in progress" at this point. But when I envision what I want for myself going forward, this is where my thoughts go.

Thank you all for your wonderful support and friendship over the years.

It has been a labor of love.
