News from Earth and Fire -- February 28, 2007 I can get it for you wholesale...February is wholesale market month in the life of the gallery. I normally go to the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia, and then up to Baltimore for the American Craft Council show the next week. It probably the most important thing I do all year, and also the most difficult. So many really wonderful artists. Such a tiny little gallery. Last year I stuck mostly with artists I had already dealt with, and didn't really order anything from any new artists. This year was almost totally the opposite. While I did place a few orders from artists I already have in the gallery, most of the things I ordered are from artists that you haven't seen in the gallery before. I will be writing more about my trip and the interactions I had with some of the artists within the next week or so in another area of the website, Today at the Gallery which you may or may not have found yet. Sometimes there are things I want to say, but I don't necessary want to take up space in the newsletters with them. You can access it from the Home page -- just under my name as the owner of the gallery. Clicking the link will always take you to the latest addition to the page, and you can scroll backwards to see earlier entries. Here we go again! It's time for the First Friday Gallery Walk, and that can only mean the weatherman is predicting rain again. AUGH!!! This is getting frustrating. This month the featured artist is Dan Finnegan, a potter from Fredericksburg, VA who studied in England with Ray Finch (who studied with Michael Cardew). Dan will be here Friday night, so I invite you to grab your umbrella, if necessary, and come on out. My favorite of the pots he sent are two tiny little round mugs that I think are just adorable:

Specifically, we are considering: 1. Changing the day to Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon -- because of traffic considerations. The feeling is that after a long day/week at work, people are tired of fighting rush hour traffic and tend to stay home on Friday nights to "relax." What do you think? Would you be more or less likely to attend if the day were changed to either Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon? 2. Only having First Friday Gallery Walks (or Saturday or Sunday) during the warmer months -- perhaps April to October only. Please let me know your thoughts. It is a lot of work to plan and put together these shows every month and we want to be responsive to our customers. Have a good week.
