News from Earth and Fire -- January 3, 2007 The times, they are a changing...YOU (me, all of us) were TIME Magazine's Person of the Year for 2006. YOU (me, all of us) who have come to use the internet so much, and in such new and different ways, that YOU (me, all of us) have changed the world significantly, one person at a time. TOWER records has gone out of business. Why? I don't know about YOU, but I download my music from iTunes now. I suspect Blockbuster Video isn't far behind. Why? I don't know about YOU, but I get my movies from Netflix. Traditional wisdom in the retail environment is that a store exists in a physical location and customers walk through the front door, look around, make and pay for their selections and carry them out the front door. What happens when that business model changes? Ask TOWER Records or Blockbuster Video. As 2007 beings, it is a time to think about how the gallery needs to change going forward to try to adapt and change and give YOU more of what YOU want. I've had a couple of nutty ideas over the last couple of months, and now seems like as good a time as any to give them a try. So, here's what's happening at the gallery: In 2007, I will be placing more emphasis on the website. Over the next few months I will be adding images of as many of the other things in the gallery as I can, so that those of YOU who can only visit the gallery online will see a website that more closely reflects the variety and selection that is available to those of YOU who visit the physical location. Gallery hours for the physical location will change as follows: Friday and Saturday -- 11:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday -- I expect to be in the gallery (most likely early afternoons) taking pictures and working on the website, answering email and voicemail and packing things to ship out. The gallery will be open when I'm here, which means by chance or by appointment. So, if you find yourself in Leesburg, by all means, drop by. However, if you are making a special trip mid-week, please call or email ahead and make sure I'll be here. The website will continue to be open 24/7/365. Have a good week.
