News from Earth and Fire -- March 8, 2006

Well, I surely have been busy...

Everything is out of the Vienna location and into the Leesburg location now, and I'm sure of a couple of things: The inventory reduction sale was a really good idea, as was selling the large antique furniture pieces. Since I still don't have the furniture organized the way it's going to ultimately be, I'm really glad not to have to be stepping over a full stock of pots (or large boxes of pots!) here and there and everywhere.

I thought I was going to have a lot of free time once I was out of Vienna, but I've been busy with the mundane business of getting a new business license here in Leesburg, changing over the utilities, getting new business cards printed up with the new address and phone number, and getting used to a new security system. I've also been to a couple of wholesale shows and started the process of building up the inventory again in anticipation of a May re-opening. So in the middle of the disarray, I've taken some time to update the website with some new work I've gotten in from Peter Karner, Sequoia Miller, and Sam Taylor.

Some of my favorites from the new group are this spectacular vase from Sam:

A similar vase was on the postcard for the Chain Reaction Show, and several people (including me) were a bit disappointed when Sam didn't send that particular one for the show.

This black "windowpane" effect seems to be something Sam is doing quite a bit of experimenting with lately. I found a couple of other vases that I liked and also some wonderful dinner plates with the same type of decoration.

From Sequoia, I found another great hut jar with that appletree green ash glaze:

If you happen to be out in Leesburg and see the lights on at the new place, don't be intimidated by the butcher paper across the windows (I'm trying to do my bit to beautify downtown Leesburg until I get things more organized in here!). Try the door, and if it opens.. I'm either at the desk where you can see me, or within earshot upstairs. It doesn't look pretty yet.. but I can find most things if I need to, so if there's something on the website that you want to see in person, you can.
