News from Earth and Fire

I'll bet Kevin Bacon is involved here somewhere

When I met Kent Harris in February and picked out some pots from him at the ACC show in Baltimore, he told me he knew some potters whose work was worth of the gallery. I told him to please go ahead and have them contact me. Out of that conversation came the pots from Elmer Taylor last month, and this month, from Brandon Phillips.

Something else he told me is that he and Willem Gebben are good friends. That's not remarkable in and of itself, because potters knowing other potters isn't remarkable at all. What was remarkable is that each of them contacted me right about the same time last year -- without knowing that the other one had done the same thing. I'm putting that into the "booga wooga" category.

Where does Kevin Bacon come in?

Well, when I saw this bowl in the pots that Brandon sent, it reminded me of the work of Ruggles and Rankin.

And when I saw the two mugs he sent, I thought about Linda Christianson.

So I sent off an email to Brandon and asked him whether or not he had been influenced by the work of these other artists.

Sure enough, Brandon confirmed what I saw in his pots.

I think Brandon sent a nice selection of pots.

And remember.. Mother's Day is a week from Sunday. Chances are, I can get a pot to dear old Mom for you just in time.
