News from Earth and Fire -- October 14, 2005 It's been a busy week.... Now that my personal life is settling down (after my son's wedding last week), I need to start focusing on the next big event at the gallery, the Chain Reaction show which opens October 29. The postcards are all addressed and stamped and have been dropped in the mail, and the first of the pots have arrived from Sam Taylor. I'm hoping the pots will arrive over the next week in a nice, orderly fashion and I'll have plenty of time to get them checked in to my inventory, photographed, and the website updated and ready to go so those of you who are not able to attend the show in person can have the same opportunity as those that do. That's my plan, anyway. To that end, I'm going to give you just a little preview of the show in the newsletter this week, and show you a few of the pots Sam sent. This one is perhaps my favorite because it is so dramatic -- very tall and thin and elegant: Tall oval vase (Taylor 1)
(reverse)15 1/2" tall X 10" wide X 2 1/4" deep
$450 I like this one because of the warm colors: Oval vase (Taylor 3)
(reverse) 4 1/4" tall X 6 1/2" wide X 1 1/2" deep
$65 Where the first one is tall and dramatic, this one is small and sweet. Warm and friendly. (Why can't a pot be friendly?!) A signature of Sam's are his fish. He sent two dinner plates with fish on them. Here's one:
Fish plate (Taylor 8)
1" tall X 10" in diameter
$70 Sam also sent three pouring bottles -- two tall narrow ones, and this "rocking" one:
Pouring Bottle (Taylor 11)
(reverse)7" tall X 9" wide X 2 1/4" deep
$190 As you can see, photographing some of these pots took twice as long, because I really felt it was necessary to photograph both sides. Who am I to say which side is "better?" Think of it as buying two pots for the price of one. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the blue bird faces out. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, it's the yellow bird. Weekends are alternated. If the potters do their thing and get the pots to me by next Friday, I'll have the entire show online for you to preview by Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. You'll be able to ask me any questions and request any additional images that you might need to make your selections. I asked for 20 pots from each potter, so it will be a big show. In an effort to be fair to everyone, I don't pre-sell any of my shows. The pots go on sale at exactly 5:00 Saturday, October 29. If you can't be here in person, a telephone call will do. Have a good week. Back to the Newsletter Archive list Contact us to join the mailing list or inquire about a specific piece.
