Ray Morales


 
I make pots for the purpose of celebrating food and home. My pieces are a combination of my free spirit and my conscious effort for good craftsmanship and design. I want my pots to be visually inviting and comfortable to the touch. Their casual form and size is carefully considered for the intended purpose and to create a harmonious relationship between what the eye sees and what the hands feel. To me this is the most difficult combination because of the delicate balance required. I strive for the perfect relationship between what we expect to feel before the piece is picked up. It is something that I am always working towards and something I believe to have achieved in all the pieces I show and sell.
 
The glazes I use can have subtle and dramatic variations depending on application and firing methods. Their chemistry is simple but their effect and success is very difficult to achieve and repeat. I enjoy these unpredictable variations and constantly work to make adjustments and to create new and interesting glazes. In many ways I expect the same relationship in the glazes that I have from the forms. Ideally an aesthetic harmony is achieved between the two. -- Ray Morales
